Do you allow yourself to imagine in details, because you understand that imagination is the beginning of creation? Or do you only imagine a vague picture because you do not trust the process?

Do you allow yourself to dream big, or do you stay on safe grounds and dream small with no real challenge?

Do you ever listen to what people say about you? Do you take other people’s opinions about you seriously?

This is my personal guideline for what people say about me:

If someone tells you that you are a horse, laugh it off – they are obviously having a bad day and it has nothing to do with you. If a second person tells you that you are a horse, look in the mirror – they may have a point. If a third person tells you that you are a horse, enter the Grand National, because they are telling the truth.

Our auras, what we say and how we behave reflect our inner state. People respond to the energy they pick up from us, and they act as mirrors for us. We need to be aware of what other people see in the mirror.

For example, a person feels inferior and unloved and expresses himself with verbal attacks on other people to prove at all costs that he is right. He is advised to change his approach and say “Have you considered this aspect?” rather than say “You are so stupid – I know better and you must listen to me”.

He does not hear the advice and continues with his behaviour. Then someone else says “Try saying: There are two sides to this. Here is one side and here is the other side. What do you think?” rather than “How can you talk such drivel? Let met tell you the truth, and listen carefully, because I am the master.”

However, the ego is still in the way, until one day when someone says “I cannot hear a word of what you are saying, because I am overwhelmed by how you are talking!”. Sadly, a really good message goes completely unnoticed, because the messenger gets in the way of the message. The result is a person who feels even lonelier and more unloved.

Sometimes we also hide a talent because of the same blind spot. For example, a person is always doodling and making little drawings. Somebody says “That is beautiful – why don’t you do it more often?” and the response is “No, this is nothing” and the drawings are hidden away.

Then a friend enters some of the drawings into a competition, and the unwilling artist wins – but runs away from the publicity and still says “it is nothing”.

Other friends notice this talent and ask for drawings. The artist feels comfortable with the requests, and slowly, slowly starts to trust the creative flow. He builds up confidence to the point where he not only responds to requests, but also experiments with new techniques. Then one day he realizes that he can trust his talent, and the resulting works of art are incredibly beautiful because they come from a sacred space.

You cannot reject the reflection in your mirror for ever.

Have you noticed the cycles in your life?

If you look back at your life, you will notice times that were quiet, and other times where there were much upheaval and lots of changes.

Think of the times when there was much upheaval. Notice the time lapse between these major changes for you. Can you see the pattern?

Here is something else that you may notice: major upheaval is followed by quiet times – times of settling down and beginning anew.

For me, these cycles last about nine years – sometimes more, sometimes less. And somehow, for me, the upheaval is bigger each time a cycle is completed. But the wonderful pattern continues – the void left by the changes is also bigger every time, and therefore the new cycle is also more powerful and more rewarding.

I have so much to look forward to.

Another interesting thing is that the changes in my life have a ripple effect – it also affects the people that I have contact with. I have a feeling that you should keep regular contact with me

Have you had a good laugh today?

If you are saying no, is it because you have not had a reason for laughing?

Do you need a reason to laugh? No, you don’t. Just start laughing from your belly and feel how your body and state of mind changes.

You do not need to tell any jokes to laugh, because you will eventually run out of jokes and you will encounter offensive jokes.

What happens when you laugh from your belly? You massage your diaphragm, thorax, abdomen, heart, lungs and liver. The laughter stimulates the production of the alertness hormones catecholamines, which in turn cause the release of endorphins in the brain. Endorphins provide a sense of relaxation and well-being and dull the perception of pain.

Just laugh for the sake of laughing and see what a difference it makes.

There are times when you are adamant about going in a particular direction. Then life steers you in another direction and you believe you have failed.

How do you deal with that?

Take a step back and look at the bigger picture. You could focus on your “failure” and make it worse, or you could see that experience as a necessary small step leading towards a big step and eventual success.

It is all about perception and going with the flow.

There are times when I think that what I want to achieve is impossible.

When that happens, I remind myself of two examples of doing just that.

In terms of aerodynamic design, a bumble bee should not be able to fly at all – but nobody ever told the bee that!

A conference organizer, at the start of his career, was told to host an event for an unknown speaker. He felt quite daunted by the challenge of getting 5 000 people together for this event, but started working immediately. A few weeks later he had to get a bigger venue, because there were already 6 000 attendees. He was so busy organizing and marketing that he did not listen to anyone who tried to advise him.

He only discovered afterwards that nobody expected him to get more than 100 attendees interested in the event.

It is possible to achieve anything. Remember that, Elsabe!

Some people will read this title and say “Of course we know where stuff comes from. They come from shops, farms, factories etc etc.”

But I am referring to the original process of creation.

For example, where can you find me a table tennis ball catcher? If you cannot find one, and you have to design one, where will the design come from?

I am not only talking about things – you also came from that same place after your parents first had the creative thought – the design and manufacturing action followed later

Have you ever wondered why it is that pyramids that were built in the same era can be found in Egypt, Rome and Peru to name but a few? How did people in such diverse locations manage to apply the same knowledge at the same time for the same purpose? And how did they manage to position those perfectly cut stones that in some instances weighed more than a ton?

And did you know that the Dogon tribe in West Africa as well as the Zulus in South Africa tell about their ancestors who arrived from outer space? Why would such people tell the same lie for thousands of years? But that is not a good question, because we all are aware of some lies that are still believed after hundreds of years.

I have always known somewhere deep inside of me that there was some truth behind Greek mythology and the Greek gods. For one, those stories are just too coherent and spectacular to have been the imaginary creation of primitive people.

I have now discovered that all the stories from Greek mythology are repetitions of similar tales from clay tablets that were discovered in the Middle East, and that pre-date Greek mythology by a few thousand years.

Those stories about gods fighting against each other with thunder and other dangerous stuff, gods flying around in flying machines and so on turn out to be not stories, but recordings of real events.

The more I read about this stuff, the more I realize that there are the gods who at some point ruled the earth, and there is a God of Love who created more than we can ever comprehend.

This is truly humbling stuff on any scale.

There are times when it feels like you are achieving nothing, despite your best efforts. These are the times when you need to trust.

We have a life plan and we live that life plan. Sometimes our attention is distracted by mundane things and we lose faith.

Then we see miracles unfolding and we stand in awe of the Plan that we are living here, and we regain our faith.

Faith is always there and never fails. We are the ones that fail when we lose focus.

I am very fortunate in that I am part of a large family. My dad was the eldest of eight children, and he had four children and four step-children himself.

I recently attended one of those occasions that bring large families together – a funeral. What struck me most is how the younger generation, my cousins, nephews and nieces, navigate artificial boundaries such as religious differences, cultural habits, and even time and space. I had not seen many of the relatives in more than 15 years, but there was a Love and goodwill that transcended everything.

This Love was not only part of mourning – it was preceded by relatives tracing each other on Facebook and discovering the interesting people behind the memories and photographs. We are always at the back of each other’s minds, because we are truly connected.

This occasion was also preceded by a time of dealing with serious illness and various related crises and discovering the hidden resources in each other. A close family supported each other’s strengths and discovered and accepted each other’s dark sides and became even closer.

Add to that friends who over the years have become as close as family. Do you know that warm and fuzzy feeling when a friend unexpectedly arrives at the funeral of a person they did not know well and says “Of course I was going to be here for you – what did you expect?”

Today I am counting my blessings – and I will be very busy with that all day because there are so many. And to think much of this happened because of the example set by one remarkable man that I could call my dad.
