A Sense Of Belonging

30th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

I am very fortunate in that I am part of a large family. My dad was the eldest of eight children, and he had four children and four step-children himself.

I recently attended one of those occasions that bring large families together – a funeral. What struck me most is how the younger generation, my cousins, nephews and nieces, navigate artificial boundaries such as religious differences, cultural habits, and even time and space. I had not seen many of the relatives in more than 15 years, but there was a Love and goodwill that transcended everything.

This Love was not only part of mourning – it was preceded by relatives tracing each other on Facebook and discovering the interesting people behind the memories and photographs. We are always at the back of each other’s minds, because we are truly connected.

This occasion was also preceded by a time of dealing with serious illness and various related crises and discovering the hidden resources in each other. A close family supported each other’s strengths and discovered and accepted each other’s dark sides and became even closer.

Add to that friends who over the years have become as close as family. Do you know that warm and fuzzy feeling when a friend unexpectedly arrives at the funeral of a person they did not know well and says “Of course I was going to be here for you – what did you expect?”

Today I am counting my blessings – and I will be very busy with that all day because there are so many. And to think much of this happened because of the example set by one remarkable man that I could call my dad.

Love and Light

Time to Change

17th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

Have you noticed how some people remain stuck in the same painful space?

For example a bad relationship, unsuitable job, no self-belief, being bullied, even physical illness. And you can add to the list.

They will remain there until they have learned what they were meant to learn about themselves, and only then will they move on.

Have you spent some time thinking about what you need to learn form your crisis?

If you are in such a painful space, give me a call on (UK) 0845 302 4782 and I can help you grasp the lesson and move on.

How To Deal With Family Drama

16th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

How do you deal with family drama?

The answer is amazingly simple, regardless of what the drama is about.

Take a step back. Look at your self and the other people involved.

See yourself and them as actors on a stage.

Then ask yourself what the most important lesson in it all is for you. What do you need to learn about yourself from it all? How will you become a stronger, wiser person as a result of the experience?

Once you understand what the lesson is, the final step is to thank those family members involved for what they have taught you. Expressing this gratitude is essential.

Some people call it forgiveness, but it is in fact gratitude for what they have taught you, rather than that “turning the other cheek” stuff where you judge them without understanding a thing.

If you are involved in a family drama and you cannot see the lesson, give me a call on (UK) 0845 302 4782 so that we can discuss it.

Are You Going Through a Challenging Period In Your Life?

15th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

Do you want to know how to avoid challenging times?

Sorry, you cannot avoid them.

We are here to have specific experiences. We learn from the experiences and by doing that we heal divisions in ourselves.

Of course you can learn to drive a car by reading a book or watching someone else drive, but that will not make you a good driver. It will make you a good describer of other drivers.

Getting into that car and driving it down the road a number of times will eventually make you a good driver.

You cannot see the picture when you are in the frame. You have to first be in the picture, then move out of the picture, and then you can appreciate the picture and learn from the experience.

Swimming Against The Stream

14th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

Have you ever had your mind set on a certain direction, and then had one obstacle after another? Or you know what to do and you do it, but you are treading water and not getting anywhere?

It is so easy to then put more energy into the same because you want to prove you are right. But that can make you quite tired and you will find yourself not moving forward despite all your efforts.

On the other hand, it would make sense to stop for a while, put your pride and stubbornness aside, and go inside. That will give you clarity on the direction that you should take. Then take that direction and do not doubt or hesitate. You will see how the obstacles melt away.

Find Your Balance

13th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

I know a lovely person who is petrified of conflict situations. He will go out of his way to avoid conflict, even lose friends and go out of business.

Guess what?

The more he works on avoiding conflict, the bigger and more proliferous the conflict situations become in his life.

This does not mean that we must all go through life fighting.

There are two sides to every single situation. If we always choose the good or light side and always ignore the bad or dark side, we simply pile up the nasty stuff. At some point the pile will fall on us.

If we accept both the “good” and the “bad” in every situation and decision, we end up with balance.

And balance has never killed anyone, because it cannot fall on you.

How Do You Respond to a Disaster?

12th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

I don’t know if you noticed how people respond to natural disasters.

I often see news articles about aid agencies spending more time on fighting for funding than on helping people.

There are always some gurus selling their products, and they send marketing emails saying something like “If you further enrich me personally right now by buying something at above cost price, I will give half a penny to the earth quake victims”

Of course there are the victims themselves fighting to get basic foodstuffs, and all the looting.

I am reminded of those credit card companies who charged high commission on the donations for the tsunami. When this was brought to light, they said “In fact, we were going to also donate the commission, but you got to us first”. Yeah, right.

How will you respond if there is an earthquake here tomorrow and you lose everything? What true colours will you show?

How Do You View Life?

11th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

Here are two options ;-)
(Author unknown)

Excerpts from a Dog’s Diary……
8:00 am – Dog food! My favorite thing!
9:30 am – A car ride! My favorite thing!
9:40 am – A walk in the park! My favorite thing!
10:30 am – Got rubbed and petted! My favorite thing!
12:00 pm – Lunch! My favorite thing!
1:00 pm – Played in the yard! My favorite thing!
3:00 pm – Wagged my tail! My favorite thing!
5:00 pm – Milk Bones! My favorite thing!
7:00 pm – Got to play ball! My favorite thing!
8:00 pm – Wow! Watched TV with the people! My favorite thing!
11:00 pm – Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing!

Excerpts from a Cat’s Daily Diary…
Day 983 of my captivity…

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a ‘good little hunter’ I am. Barbarians.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of ‘allergies.’ I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking.. I must try this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released – and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now …. ?

What Are You Still Carrying?

10th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

Do you want to hear a little story?

Two monks, Father John and Father Paul, were walking and had to cross a river.

When they got to the river bank, there was a woman looking at the water.

Father John asked her what she was waiting for.

“I am afraid of the water, but I have to cross the river to reach my loved ones,” she said.

“Get on my back, and I will carry you across”, Father John said.

The woman did that and Father John waded through the river, with Father Paul following them.

When they reached the other side, the woman thanked Father John and wanted to pay him. Of course he declined payment and they left the woman there.

As they were walking along, Father John made some small talk about the path, the animals they saw, the weather. Father Paul did not say a word.

Father John realised that Father Paul was not himself, and stopped.

“Father Paul, is something wrong? Are you feeling unwell?” Father John asked.

Father Paul said nothing and kept walking.

Father John ran after him and asked again “Are you unwell? What is wrong?”

Father Paul stopped and glared at Father John.

“Wrong?” he said. “You ask me what is wrong? I will tell you what is wrong. You spoke to a woman. That was not enough for you. You then had the audacity to touch the woman. As if that was not enough, you allowed the woman to sit on your back. Have you no shame? Do you not know sin? What next? And you ask me what is wrong?”

Father John looked straight into Father Paul’s eyes. “Father Paul,” he said, “I put that woman down three hours ago. Why are you still carrying her?”

What are you still carrying?

Believing Is Seeing

9th Sep 2010

Hello Lovely People

Let’s say I need to have £500 by Monday to pay my mortgage.

Here is an example of “Seeing is believing”: I don’t know where the money will come from. You suggest a long list of steps that I can take to find the money in time. However, I have tried those things before and they did not work. So I say “seeing is believing” and guess what? I wait, and I don’t see the results, and I say “Seeing is believing, and I don’t believe you”.

Now here is an example of “Believing is seeing”: I know from experience that the best way to get things done is to decide what needs to be done, and then to do it. I know I am creative and resourceful. I have a service to sell and I know who my regular buyers are. I feel obliged to give them value for money, and I make them an offer that is attractive to them. 5% of the buyers take up the offer and I get not only excellent feedback on how I satisfied their needs, but I also get £700 for my efforts. I say “Believing is seeing”, and I have proven my self correct.

Agreed, the difference lies in the action, but the action starts with the belief, which starts with you.

If you can, watch the movie “In Pursuit of Happiness” with Will Smith in the lead role. That is an excellent example of “believing is seeing”.
