Our shadow selves make bad decisions 2

27th Jun 2009

Hello lovely people

But when we get thrown into a traumatic situation, we instantly forget all those ranges of responses.  We forget all the life experiences that helped us outgrow our shadow selves.  We go right back to being the child that had that first experience, and we apply the same coping mechanism without even thinking.  And it does not work, because you and the situation are both quite different.

Instead of having those sets of behaviour come to the rescue like the previous time, they make everything worse.  And this is where you make a decision that is probably perfect for the old shadow self, but disastrous for the person you have since become.

You decide that the only way to deal with your trauma is to get rid of the environment that is to blame, and you move house to a familiar area of which you have good memories from a previous time.  You wake up in a neighbourhood that has changed, among people that are quite different.  You feel even lonelier than before and discover that everything you ran away from is still with you, ready to be faced when you are ready.

Or you decide to simply ignore all your emotions and get on with life.  But things get worse because you develop health problems that can get quite serious.  You also get into a relationship with a totally unsuitable person.  It takes a while for you to realise that you have added to your problems, and then there is the task of getting out of the relationship

Or you outwardly accept blame for the entire mess and you do not tell anyone that you are so angry at some people.  You lie awake at night, feeling guilty.  You really feel like a victim when on top of everything you develop health problems.  The easy way out is alcohol or medication, because they both dull the emotional pain – until you wake up the next day feeling rubbish, with even more guilt and anger.

Our shadow selves are very convenient when we initially use them.  Later in life they are only convenient when we are able to recognise them and use them as a measure of our spiritual growth since we first needed them.  The shadow selves also remind us of all the issues that we still need to deal with.

This is why traumatic situations should in fact be seen as blessings – they help us clear out the spiritual stuff that we no longer need, so that we can move on to the exciting stuff and into the Light.

Knowledge is power.  When we identify our dominant shadow self (and we all have some of each in our arsenal) we are already in a strong position to confront the underlying limiting decisions and remove the barriers that we placed there for ourselves.

We can run, but we cannot hide – especially from ourselves.

Our shadow selves make bad decisions 1

24th Jun 2009

Hello lovely people

Have you ever been in a position where you made a decision because you felt at the time that you had to, even though your mind was woolly and the world was unreal?  I am sure you lived to not only regret that decision, but also to ask yourself “What had gotten into me when I decided that?”

And it is possible that at the time you were recently traumatised, for example being widowed, walking away from a very destructive relationship, being forced to leave a job, and so on.

Such experiences often uproot our entire existence, and turn our world upside down.  While we are grasping at anything that may look like the old reality that we knew before, the world keeps turning and changing.  We hold on for dear life, wishing the world would just for a moment stop turning so that we can get our footing back again.

However, the world keeps turning, and we have to make decisions about various things, from what to wear today to whether I should sell my house and move to the other side of the country.

Why is it that these decisions often turn out to be the worst we can imagine?  It is probably because the decision is made by the shadow self that has taken control of the situation.

What is a shadow self?  It is a far less mature self that we adopted earlier in our lives to deal with a situation that we could not cope with at the time.  For example we refused to take responsibility for our actions and found somebody to blame, and at the time it worked.   Remember when you were sixteen years old and stayed out too late on a date and had to face your father?  Were you to blame?  Of course not.  It was either the boyfriend that did not want to leave on time, or the car that ran out of petrol.

Or we find that we have such strong emotions that we cannot deal with them.  As a result we either stop functioning from the head down and refuse to have any emotions, or we do everything possible to distract the attention from ourselves and anything that is remotely personal.  Remember when your adored parent suddenly died?  You were frightened, scared, angry about being abandoned, lonely.  You decided that nobody would see what a mess you are inside, and the emotional shutters went down.

Or we become doormats and accept the blame for everything, even when our logical minds say that we are not to blame.  Remember when you first discovered that somebody you love is addicted to drugs or alcohol?  Remember the argument where you were told “You drive me to it!” and you felt confused, hurt and wronged?

Later on we learned that all these shadow selves are temporary solutions and we discovered that in the long run it is far better to accept responsibility where appropriate.  We learnt to deal with our emotions and get more perspective on situations.  We develop ranges of responses and we get to choose the most appropriate response for a situation.

A warning about blackmailing mediums 2

20th Jun 2009

Hello lovely people

However, the kind of nonsense reading that I refer to is the generic bluff one that shows no understanding whatsoever of your situation or your questions.  I once had such a reading from a person who told me that my love life would improve if I stop wearing navy blue.  At the time I had not a single piece of navy blue clothing or even accessories in my wardrobe, and my love life was the least of my concerns.  This person had all the paraphernalia, including the head scarf, gypsy earrings and crystal ball, on display and made buckets of money from gullible and vulnerable clients.

Another big concern with a reading obtained via the internet is where the reading is done for free or for a very low price, and then the reading is followed up with a series of emails demanding a ransom for your salvation.  I have seen some of these emails that would scare the living daylight out of any innocent person, because they indicate that doomsday is getting closer by the minute if the recipient does not respond to any of the series of emails.

Of course the response of the recipient must be in the form of buying an expensive trinket that will bring immediate relief, or buying a “more in-depth” reading that will chase the hovering devils away at a price that is comfortable for the medium.

No earthly object can bring relief to a hurting soul.  In fact, people who fall for this kind of blackmail will hurt even more, because they will part with their money under pressure and feel even worse about the space that they are in when there is no relief.

Maybe it is just the way I think, but I would rather provide a paid-for reading than provide a free reading as bait for another reading.  For me, this is not only a matter of integrity i.e. giving the client what they paid for in the first place.  It is also a matter of self-protection.  There are thousands of people that would want a free reading, and every time you give a free reading, you also give energy away to a person that does not appreciate your gift.

I would rather do a single paid-for and comprehensive reading for a person than allow them to suck out my energy in exchange for the promise of only then giving them “the real stuff”.

And I know that it is not good internet marketing, but I believe that the quality of my readings rather than the sale of trinkets will let clients return to me.

A Warning About Blackmailing Mediums 1

17th Jun 2009

Hello lovely people

The internet is an amazing tool for breaking down artificial boundaries such as time and space.  Instant communication with a person on the other side of the world is a marvel that has brought home to us how small the world really is and how irrelevant time is in the greater scheme of things.  Internet communication has also assisted in breaking down the boundaries of space, because on the web there are no space limitations.

What has this got to do with mediumship?

People who have had a glimpse of eternity understand that time and space are man-made concepts.  These concepts apply on earth so that we can make sense of our environment.  Once we understand this, it becomes clear how mediums and psychics can tap into the quantum soup of the unconscious and use email to convey the results to their paying clients.

Unfortunately, as with any technological development, there are always people that exploit for their own benefit.

There is nothing wrong with asking for and obtaining a psychic reading over the internet.  A true psychic will (always with the permission of the client) find a link to the information that needs to be channelled to the client.  Once the link has been established, the information can be conveyed via email.  True, this is a one-sided conversation.  The advantage is that the psychic does not have the comfort zone of asking numerous questions.  They either have the link or they do not, and it is much more difficult to fake the link when you are not in a position to interpret the body language and facial expressions of the client.

I would, however, get concerned if the psychic reading is returned to me immediately (obviously machine-generated and aimed at a mass market rather than at me personally) or when I cannot associate at all with the contents of the reading.

I have had clients that would not accept any of the information I channelled to them.  In those circumstances I initially doubted the information I received, but I realised over time that there are people that simply deny everything around them.  This is not a justification.  I have had one client (over a period of more than 15 years) for whom I was unable to give any reading at all.  I told her the truth and gave her money back.  I have had a few clients that rejected everything I said to them, but their comments and responses then clearly indicated that I was far too close to the truth for their comfort.

Faceboook and ministerial expenses – our common enemy 2

13th Jun 2009

Hello lovely people

And how about the people who had no idea how food got from their innocent hands to their greedy mouths?  When they eventually figured out that they actually had control over both their hand and their mouths, they decided to sue the fast food providers for putting temptation in their way by providing fast food.

And of course there are the smokers who are suing the cigarette companies for making them get into their cars, drive to a shop, buy a pack of cigarettes with a death warning on it, and smoke the cigarettes one after the other.   Is there some secret, hidden button that the cigarette companies and fast food providers install in people?  Or do these people simply have no idea that they have brains to help them think and take responsibility for themselves?

The latest classic is a group of over a thousand students from the University of Sydney, Australia, that call themselves “I want to sue Facebook if I fail university”.  These students go to a library so that they can study.  Then there is a voice from a computer that demands they switch it on and log in to Facebook.  Once they have logged in, they have to check all their invitations, the latest gossip and photographs of people they hardly know.  When that is done, the computer forces these poor students to play a game where they exchange poker chips for cigars, and then to update their movements for the next ten minutes with either cryptic or blatant messages depending on their level of intelligence.  But this is not the computer’s fault – the computer is simply a pawn in the hands of that mastermind called Facebook.  And the poor students get worse and worse grades because they are the victims here.

No wonder we end up with governments that tell us what the ideal weight of our rubbish bins are and on what day of the week a Sunday roast is best served for recycling purposes.  We hand our inner control over to anyone that can relieve us any decision making,

What is the solution to this?  More medication for constipation, indigestion, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome and other stomach dis-eases.  We forget that the centre of control is the solar plexus chakra.  We are not aware of the extent to which our energy is drained out of our systems when we hand control over our lives and decisions to other people.

Now I am going to run down the street in high heels.  I may slip and break a leg, but I will simply sue somebody for approving the layout of the town and building the road two hundred years ago.  Oh, and I will sue the council for not putting up signs to say one should not run down a cobbled street in high heels.  Hey, that is how the world works.   It’s not my fault.

Faceboook and ministerial expenses – our common enemy 1

8th Jun 2009

Hello lovely people

I have found a way to do exactly as I please and get away with it.  It is so simple that I cannot believe I have never used it before.

All I have to do is point to someone who may be remotely associated with me, and say “They made me do it”.

I have excellent examples of where this has worked.  The first example is the parliamentary expenses system in the UK.  Ministers who are entrusted with the welfare of people were caught with their hands in the proverbial cookie jar.  Their claims for expenses range from a church donation for a Battle of Britain memorial service (attending the service was part of the job) to a floating duck pond (essential for impressing constituents) to a bath plug (that one is obvious) to an antique fireplace (returning to grassroots politics?), and the saga continues.  So far seventeen government ministers have resigned as a result of the expenses saga.

Why did these politicians claim expenses for items that one could only shake one’s head about?     Because they could.  Because they tried and got away with it.  Because nobody was looking – or whoever was looking chose to turn a blind eye.

If those politicians were shop workers and they were repeatedly taking money from the cash register, would they have been able to apologise and pay some of the money back?  Hardly likely.  They would have been prosecuted and ended up with a criminal record.  But these ministers blamed the nature of the expenses system for their actions.  They never even considered their own moral compasses.  Of course the public were justifiably outraged.  Some of the ministers also appeared outraged and accused the press of blowing things out of proportion.  Were they outraged because they were caught out, or because they realised to what extent they handed their personal control over to other people?

Then there was the volunteer charity worker who joined a charity so that she could help young people to get home on Saturday nights after they had been binge drinking.  She felt so sorry for these children that she is making a career out of helping them because “it is not their fault”.  They turned eighteen years old and were legally allowed to go to the pub and get drunk, and they used the opportunity.  Apparently these young people had no proper guidance on how to drink alcohol, and that is the motivation behind the charity.  The issue is not that the young people had a choice and the opportunity to act responsibly.  They are not expected to act responsibly in the first place, and that is why the charity exists – to take them home safely rather than to teach them about self-control.

Tarot and the flat earth society 2

4th Jun 2009

Hello lovely people

In the dead of night, you manage to sneak into the church.  Your mission is to find out more about the conversations you overheard.  You know that there are some books in the church, and you have learnt to read.  You are hoping to find some of these books.  But no such luck.  You discover that there is a meeting of church officials.

They are discussing the latest developments in town.  And they are packing the church books into crates.  “We cannot let the truth get to ordinary people”, the leader says emotionally.  “We must hide these books!  We must make an example of those people!  What will the world come to if everyone starts to use their common sense and think for themselves?”

Why am I telling you this story?  Because in the past few days I have re-lived some twenty-first century versions of this scenario.  Replace the flat earth with 2012 and the “end of the world”, or with tarot and the knowledge of life.

How do you answer an intelligent person who says to you “I have heard about 2012 but I am too afraid to find out what it is about and please don’t tell me”?

What do you say to a person who says “Tarot is sinful, and it is all about death and the devil”?  How do you explain to the person that tarot is an encyclopaedia of life, and one of the richest sources of information about our existence on this earth?

When I encounter an attitude like that about tarot, I have even more respect and admiration for the people that managed to retain the knowledge that was captured in tarot.  If that same knowledge had been captured in books only, all those books would have been burnt by those that were in a position of power.  They would have done everything to ensure that the ancient knowledge remains available to only a select few people that would have abused the sacred knowledge for their own purposes.

By capturing the knowledge of tarot in richly illustrated cards filled with symbols and nuances, the geniuses who decided to do that ensured that the knowledge remained available in plain sight.

Of course there are still many members of the flat earth society who would happily play with the cards – or with the variation that is used for gambling – and they would have no idea of the sacred knowledge that they have access to.  Of course there are also those members that deliberately choose to play the roulette of life by staying as far away from the tarot cards as possible.  They are unable to give reasons for not wanting to know anything about tarot, because they simply block their minds and find equally ignorant people who agree with their prejudices to justify their choices.

Either way, by closing our minds to the things that we were taught to fear for no reason, we become spiritually poorer.  The only way to open our minds is to challenge any obstacles and boundaries and find our own truth. The same people that describe tarot as “from the devil” are told in the Bible in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 “Test everything. Hold on to the good.”  For me this means use your God-given mind to explore, and decide what resonates with you. Do not hand the power of that decision over to another person who becomes stronger because you chose ignorance.  And this means explore everything, not just the things that you are told to explore.

Tarot and the flat earth society 1

1st Jun 2009

Hello lovely people

Imagine this:  It is the year 1492.  You are Christopher Columbus and you have just discovered that when you stand on the beach, you can see waves, but when you stand on a cliff you can see the ocean but no waves.  Did the waves disappear?  No, of course not.  You simply changed your vantage point and that made you see a lot more.

This got you thinking.  You noticed that when you approach a blind hill, it looks like the top of the hill is the end of the earth.  But when you get to the top of the hill, you discover that the road continues into the horizon.  This makes you feel really brave.  You continue to walk, expecting to reach the end of the earth any day.  But the road ends on another beach.

Now you are really curious.  You build yourself a nice big boat, and you decide to sail on the sea until you either reach land or fall off the earth.  A few months later you return triumphantly and tell people about the land you discovered.  You even show them specimens of the strange fruit and animals you discovered on this distant land.

You do notice that people are initially in awe of what you tell them, but then they start to avoid you.  When you go to town, they cross the street so as not to bump into you.  When you want to visit them, you hear them tell their children to tell you they are not at home.

All this is a bit confusing, but you know your facts and nothing can change that.  You have discovered that the earth is round and not flat.

Then you meet a new friend called Maggelan.  He listens carefully to your tales and takes you seriously.  He even goes a step further.  He sails away, vowing to keep sailing in the same direction until he returns to the point of departure.

Meanwhile you have received some warnings from the church to stop spreading false dogma.  You decide to keep a low profile until Magellan returns – and you wonder whether you will ever see him again.

Then, three years later, when your neighbours are talking to you again and the church is happy that you have stopped being a troublemaker, Magellan returns.  He confirms your story that the earth is round.

Of course this makes you very happy, and you want to shout your discovery out to the world.  You do notice the church men huddling nearby, but you are not so elated that you completely ignore them.

You hear some snippets of their conversation: “ . . .  keep quiet . . . Ptolomy . . .  that heretic Pythagoras . . must get fear back . . cannot have this . . . “
