Chinese whispers and American foreign policy 2

29th Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

I read recently that Humpty Dumpty was not an egg.  It was in fact a famous cannon that was used in the Siege of Colchester during the English Civil War.  At some stage an egg-shaped character in a children’s story was given the same name and the nursery rhyme (and the myth) started.

I am sure you have also received some of these emails that have been doing the rounds or years about parents collecting money for children that are dying from some terminal illness, or Microsoft and AOL dishing out money simply because you use your computer.  I have found this website a good place to check before passing the email on.  I have even replied to some of these emails by providing the link, and still received other emails from the same sources – proving how gullible people can be.

We can have a good laugh about these absurdities, but I would like to point out the danger of it as well.

We sometimes say things about people and we mean them as a joke.  Others hear the statements and do not understand the joke.  They repeat the statements and over time people start to believe what they hear.  Or people hear a malicious rumour and repeat it because it is so juicy, even though they know it is not true.

We know that what we think becomes.  By the time we say something about people, we had already formed a strong enough thought to put it into words.  So when I say watch your tongue, it is actually too late.  We should watch our thoughts as well.

Yes, I know our thoughts are not always whiter than white, and that is OK, because there is balance in the Universe.  But an awareness of how our thoughts are the origin of what we say and do will help us to move from thinking more negative thoughts to thinking more positive thoughts.

Now I am off to send some loving thoughts to Sarah Palin – and to John McCain as well.

Chinese whispers and American foreign policy 1

26th Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

Sometimes I am astonished at real things that happen – even if you dream up the most absurd scenario, you can always find something that actually happened that is more absurd.

What I have found most amusing is the foreign policy credentials of Sarah Palin.  This unknown woman – unknown in the sense that she was a well-known achiever in Alaska with a reasonably normal life until John McCain and the press discovered her – has not had many trips outside of the US.  This made people question her ability to deal with issues such as the war in Iraq and the recent Russian invasion of Georgia.

Then somebody said on a major news program that Sarah Palin has knowledge of international politics because she lives in Alaska, which is next to Russia.  It was meant as a joke, but the person said it with a straight face.  If you believed this statement, you are probably one of those people who go on holiday to “Africa” or plan to “do Europe”.  If you are, I suggest you occasionally leave your house and buy an atlas.

Anyway, some people understood the joke and had a good laugh and repeated it.  Cindy McCain apparently did not understand the joke, because she repeated that Sarah Palin understood national security issues because Alaska is the closest part of North America to Russia.

Then Michael Barone confirmed Sarah’s foreign policy experience with the same statement about Russia and Alaska.

Then some well-known American writer said Sarah Palin has learned foreign policy by some kind of osmosis because of Alaska’s physical location.

And finally John McCain, the presidential candidate for the United States of America, one who may in future have a massive impact on world peace or the lack of it because of his actions, said that Sarah Palin understands the energy issues that are a key part of the national security issues, because Alaska is right next to Russia.

This is how rumour became fact in America, but nowhere else in the world.

If you are following my email series on interfaith holidays, you may have noticed similar trends in religion.  Interesting and sometimes far-fetched statements originate from prominent people. At some point it becomes difficult to distinguish fact from fiction, and over time these statements become doctrine which other people are willing to kill for.

To be continued.

The light is worth the candle

23rd Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

In the “good” old days coal miners in England and Wales were dirt poor – too poor to even afford candles to light their houses.  In a British winter that is a serious problem, because in mid-winter we are lucky to have eight hours of daylight.  And those eight hours are often quite dark anyway because of cloudy weather.

When a person gets a bit down and depressed in South Africa, people tend to say “It is OK, tomorrow the sun will shine again.”  You cannot say that in the UK, because we may not see any sunshine for up to three weeks in winter, and that really is depressing for some people.

Anyway, back to the coal miners.  They received candles from the mine owners, and these candles were fixed to their hard hats so that they could see where they worked in those pitch dark mines where you could easily fall to your death if you misstep.

Using any of those candles outside of the mine was a grave offence and you could even lose your job for taking a candle away from the mine.

That did not deter the miners from stealing the candles.  When they were able to take a candle home and light the candle during the long, dark evenings, they could actually see one another.  The luxury of reading was out of the question because of very low literacy levels, and they barely had money for food, never mind books.

That is where the expression “the light is worth the candle” comes from.  Having light in their homes and being able to see one another was worth the risk of stealing the candle and potentially losing your job.

The same holds for our journey through life.  No, it is not always pleasant.  But then, we are here to learn particular lessons.  Once we have dealt with the major themes of our lives, whether it is issues with parents, children, health, relationships or anything else, we experience such relief and peace.  We understand so much more about life and about who we are.

And then we look back on our lives and we know that the Light we experience is worth the journey we had to take to get to this point.  And gratitude results in more things to be grateful for.

Water from Outer Space 3

20th Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

If water is so important to both our bodies and souls, what is the best water to drink?  City dwellers do not have the benefit of drinking “wise” water from wells.  We have the options of bottled water and tap water.

Bottled water can be quite expensive in the long run, and even when you drink only bottled water, research has indicated that it is not necessarily healthy.  Bottled water can come from underground sources or from springs, but if you are not careful, you could be sold ordinary tap water in a bottle.

The Coca Cola Company had to withdraw their bottled water from the UK market a few years ago when consumers realised that the water is in fact potable (drinkable) tap water that underwent a “highly sophisticated purifying process”.  The tap water suppliers in the UK pointed out that the tap water was already potable before it was “purified” by the Coca Cola Company.  In the UK bottled water must now be labelled to show whether it is mineral water, spring water or drinking water (which can be tap water even though it is sold in a bottle).

If tap water is drinkable, is tap water then better than bottled water?  Not necessarily.  Tap water is clean because chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride are added, but does that mean that tap water is healthy?  Chlorine was first added to drinking water in the 1890’s to combat water-borne diseases such as cholera and typhoid.  Chlorine destroys the structure that is found in natural water and is a known poison.  There is also no conclusive proof that fluoride has health benefits, but both chlorine and fluoride are still being added to our drinking water.  It is not clear what damage tap water does to your body over a lifetime.

Then what water should we drink?  It seems that the best solution is to filter tap water, and preferably to drink alkaline filtered water.  Sang Whang, the author of Reverse Ageing, has done research into the benefits of drinking alkaline water.  His findings include a decline in blood sugar levels in diabetic patients, improvements in liver functions in hepatic disorders, improvements in gastro duodenal ulcers and prevention of their recurrences, improvements in allergic disorders such as asthma, urticaria, rhinitis and atopic dermatitis, and improvements in hypertension and hypotension.

There are many water filter system on the market, and much information on domestic water filter systems is available on the internet.  Once you have decided on the most suitable one for your needs, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions to maintain the filters.

There is the old saying that one cannot live from cold water and love alone.  If we show enough love and gratitude to the water we drink, and if we drink enough water to satisfy the needs of our bodies, could it be that love and filtered tap water form the cheapest and most effective diet ever invented?

Water From Outer Space 2

17th Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

What information can water distribute?  It is well know that no two snowflakes form the same crystals. This pricked the curiosity of the Japanese scientist, Masaro Emoto, author of The Hidden Messages in Water.  He has spent many years photographing water crystals and deciphering the meaning of the crystals that were formed under different conditions.  Masaro Emoto proved conclusively that water responds to the environment and to people.

A group of Japanese school children assisted him with an experiment by walking past three bottles of water every day for a week.  They said “I love you” to the first bottle of water, “You fool” to the second, and ignored the third bottle.  Masaro Emoto then took photographs of the crystals that were formed by the water in these bottles.

The water from the first bottle formed a beautiful, dainty, symmetric crystal.  The water from the second bottle formed a shape that looked similar to an oil stain.  The water from the third, ignored, bottle showed a deformed blob, similar to crystals from water that was exposed to heavy metal music.

Masaro Emoto came to the conclusion that perfect water crystals are formed when they are exposed to the words “love” and “gratitude”.  He says that the key to a happy and health life is to purify the water that is in your body.

This tells us that water is not only a lubricant, basis for saliva, regulator of body temperature and means of alleviating constipation and regulating our metabolism, among other physiological functions. It is quite possible that water is a tangible means of communicating with the souls that are housed in our bodies.

The science of homeopathy is based on the premise that water has a memory and that our bodies respond to that memory.  For many years traditional scientists have laughed off the idea that homeopathic medicine that is diluted to the point where there is no trace left of the original remedy, can heal people.  They believed that it is a placebo effect, where people want to get better and as a result their belief in the medicine, rather than the medicine itself, makes them better.

The research that Masaro Emoto and other scientists have done recently indicates that water indeed has a memory, and that the human body responds to the messages that it gets from water.  Homeopathic medicine retains only the memory of the illness.  The body then responds to this memory and activates its own healing mechanism to fight the illness.  The homeopathic medicine makes the body aware of the intruding illness that needs to be taken away, and then the body responds and you start to feel better.

Water from outer space 1

13th Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

We know that eight glasses of water every day will ensure good health, but few people have the discipline to do it.  Will we change our attitude and habits if we know that water is not just a fluid, but a live entity from outer space that communicates with us?

Think about it.  What other fluid can change to a solid state (ice) or evaporate and form steam?   Our bodies are 90% water when we are born, and 70% water when we mature.  When water freezes over a lake, everything under the ice layer remains alive until the ice melts again.  All this makes water unique and different from other fluids.  Could it be possible that unlike other fluids, water is a live entity?

An ancient Greek, Pliny, said that “Water swallows up the earth, extinguishes the flame, ascends on high, and by stretching forth as clouds challenges the heavens for their own, and the same falling down, becomes the cause of all things that grow in the earth.”  No other fluid does that, and water is the element that controls the other elements of air, earth and fire.

Scientists have talked about “juvenile” and “mature” or “wise” water for years.   Victor Schauberger, an Austrian scientist, defined “juvenile” water as sterile, distilled and devoid of any so-called impurities.  He described “mature” water as “enriched with raw materials” and therefore “in a position to give, to dispense itself freely and willingly”.

The terms “juvenile” and “mature” are still being used to describe water, but Joan A Davis of Zurich Technical University define these terms slightly different.  She says that “juvenile” water has recently fallen from outer space, whereas “wise” water fell to earth, seeped into the ground, and emerged with information collected from various minerals after hundreds of years to distribute information.

Louis Frank of the University of Iowa formed a theory that water has been entering the earth from outer space in the form of lumps of ice for over 40 billion years.  Scientists initially regarded this as a laughable statement, but NASA research has proved that water indeed still comes to the earth from outer space, and it takes the shape of rain or snow or hail when it first arrives.

If water is a means of communication from outer space, then maybe Modjadji, the hereditary Rain Queen of the Balobedu tribe, has knowledge that has been ignored by those of us who rely on reservoirs and water management for our drinking water.  The Balobedu believe that their Rain Queens communicate with the gods and pass down magical powers allowing them to create rain.  The same practice of “rain-making” was used by the ancient Egyptians, and the Native Americans and people in the Balkans still perform their rain dances today.

This formation of “wise” water would explain why water from hot springs and thermal baths has healing qualities.  This “wise” water comes from deep below the earth, and the healing qualities of such water have been known for thousands of years.  For example, people from all over the world flock to over 1 300 thermal baths in Hungary to receive treatment for various ailments, ranging from respiratory and digestive disorders to even infertility.  This has given rise to balneotherapy, or healing with water.  Balneotherapy includes bathing, hydrotherapy, mud therapy, massage, steam baths, inhalation of water vapour, and drinking mineral water from hot springs.  To be continued.

Your oxygen mask IS working 2

9th Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

We like to complain about the few things that “go wrong” and ignore the many things that go right.

We love to find someone else that we can blame for the “lack” of a massive miracle in our lives, and we take all the miracles that come our way every day for granted without acknowledging them and feeling gratitude for them.

And above all, we are so concerned about others that we forget to look after ourselves first. If you are in any relationship of any kind – if you are a parent or spouse or child or friend or colleague, you will know what I am talking about.

How often do we feel that we sacrifice for a job or for another person and we do not get anything back in return? Our children do things that disappoint and shock us, despite the way we brought them up and sacrificed for them. We do not get that promotion despite putting in long hours and sacrificing home life. Our friends are too busy to do things with us that will make us feel good, or they go their own way after we had sacrificed to keep the friendship going.

And we get tired of giving and sacrificing, and we receive nothing in return. And someone is to be blamed for that.

Guess whose fault is it when we get too tired to keep giving to others? It is our own fault.

So many traditions focus on giving to others first. They never think that when a jug is empty, there is nothing to pour out from it. An empty jug needs to be filled up.

How do we fill up ourselves so that we can give from abundance rather than from sacrifice? We have a regular time for doing the things we love, so that we can focus on experiencing joy. We have fun with our loved ones – at times having fun is far more important that cleaning the house or going to work. Three hours of fun and laughter are worth far more than eight hours of earning an income, because fun and laughter also improves our health.

We need to acknowledge that God is there for us – all the time, like the oxygen that we breathe in all day. We like to think that God is there for our crises, and yes, He is, but that is because He is there for us all the time. God is there having fun with us during the good times, and carrying us during the bad times.

I once heard that an atheist is a person who has no invisible source of support. And someone else said that for those who believe, no proof is necessary, while for those that do not believe, no proof will ever be enough.

Are you one of the people that grab the oxygen mask, survive, and then complain that the oxygen mask did not work as expected? Or are you one of the people that think of yourself first, keep breathing, and then help others because you enjoy doing so and because you are grateful for the opportunity?

Your oxygen mask IS working 1

6th Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

Have you ever been on a plane and listened to the safety announcements?  I know, when you are a regular air passenger, you get into the habit of blocking out the safety announcements because they are always the same and always boring.

But let’s see how well you have listened the first time.

What do you do when the cabin pressure drops?  Yes, yes you grab the oxygen mask that drops out and put it over your mouth so that you can continue breathing.  And only then do you help the passenger next to you with his or her oxygen mask, even if it is a child or a frail person.

There was a recent incident where a plane rapidly lost air pressure and the oxygen masks were dropped to the passengers.  Everyone survived – and in true human tradition, everyone complained like hell and without thinking, even though they survived.  Why did they complain?  Because the oxygen masks “were not working” and the staff “did not tell them what was going on”.

Did you know that when you use that oxygen mask on the plane, there isn’t a blast of oxygen?  There is a soft flow, like a breath. That soft, gentle flow of oxygen is enough to keep you alive.  Without that oxygen you will lose consciousness within twelve seconds and asphyxiate soon after.

And it is because of that short time span that you need to put on your oxygen mask first, and then help the person next to you.  If you focus on first struggling with someone else’s oxygen mask, you will lose consciousness very quickly and be of no use to anyone.

And guess what?  The staff members on the plane are also human, and the same rule holds for them as well.  They must also grab the nearest oxygen mask within twelve seconds or lose consciousness.  And because the staff can be anywhere on the plane, there are additional oxygen masks above the seats throughout the plane.  Staff members do not need to run anywhere for air when timing is so crucial.

That means that staff members probably will often not be near any public announcement system so that they can state the bleeding obvious, namely that the plane is losing air pressure and people must use the oxygen masks.

The pilots are also subject to the same timeframe of twelve seconds, and if they have to choose between staying conscious and getting the plane down safely on the one hand, and keeping passengers informed of every move on the other hand, I know what I would expect them to do.

We often have a similar ungrateful approach to our faith.

We expect massive one-off miracles as proof of the existence of God and completely ignore the hundreds of small miracles that we encounter every day.  To be continued.

Are you contributing to crime by reading the newspapers? 2

1st Oct 2008

Hello lovely people

Continued

Because your thoughts are so full of avoiding being mugged, that is all you think about.  You see potential muggers around every corner and cling to your purse or keep ensuring that everything is still in your pocket.  And potential muggers pick up on the waves of fear that emanate from you and get closer to you, because you reflect their reality as well.

And then one day you get mugged.

Do you then say “Oops, time to change my thought processes.  Time to raise my thought vibrations and think about unconditional love and peace and things that make me feel good”?

Or do you join the growing chorus of negativity around you and tell everyone in sight of the terrible experience you had, and add momentum to the waves of fear and anxiety around you?  And do you, by telling your story and reading more newspapers and watching more TV news to validate your experience, perpetuate the crime around you?

You tell me.

Mother Teresa understood the Law of Attraction.  Here is a quote from her: “I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”

Mother Teresa intuitively understood that what you fill your mind with is what you attract to you.   And where you have a particular expectation, eventually it will get fulfilled.

How about this explanation for the Law of Attraction:  You walk into a restaurant with a friend, order food from the menu, and continue with your conversation.  You expect that your order will be delivered, and guess what, it happens.  And if the order was delivered promptly by a friendly waiter and the food was delicious, you leave a tip to show your gratitude.

Then you walk out of the restaurant, forget all about the Law of Attraction, and get home safely despite having your mind full of thoughts of muggings and what else, and you forget to say “thank You for bringing me home safely.”

So we manage to get the less important things, like ordering a meal and paying a tip, right, but then we mess up on the big things, like filling our minds with love and peace and gratitude.  Let’s try again and let’s this time ensure the massive ear hears only what we want it to hear.  And when the massive ear delivers on what we wanted, let’s remember to feel and show gratitude.
